Collective Worship

At Packington CofE Primary school, we have a daily act of worship which is central to school life.

This is important to all members of our school community as we value the chance to be together and reflect on the values that are part of our distinctiveness as a Church of England school.

Collective Worship offers the opportunity for all pupils and adults to grow spiritually through experiences of prayer, stillness, worship and reflection. It can take many forms through music, singing, stories, prayer, reflection and festivals.

Our Collective Worship takes full account of the Christian Calendar and each week explores a key Christian theme or Value.

Organisation

Daily acts of Collective Worship take place in the school hall following an agreed timetable which is displayed on the staff notice board.  Variations to the timetable may occur when necessary.

Celebrating Achievement

*A staff rota is in operation to cover Collective Worship on a Tuesday and Wednesday so that all teaching staff are engaged in the planning and delivery of worship.  The structure of Collective Worship is normally as follows:

  • a time to gather, where pupils and adults will say a liturgy, often led by a pupil who will say, ‘This is the day the Lord has made,’ and the school community respond ‘Let us rejoice and be glad in it.’
  • the lighting of a candle/ candles (with three wicks). As each wick is lit pupils and adults say ‘God the father, the son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Three flames, one light.’ to remind us of the Christian belief in the trinitarian nature of God
  • a time to engage
  • a time to respond
  • a time to reflect and pray
  • a time to This is most often led by a pupil saying, ‘Peace be with you’ and the school community respond ‘And also with you.’

We encourage our children to reflect on Collective Worship to support their spiritual development.
